Manuka honey – what is all the fuss about?
Professor Peter Molan, a biochemist at Waikato University, has been researching the properties of honey since 1981. Professor Molan identified that honey produced from the New Zealand manuka bush (manuka honey) has unique properties not found in other honeys.
What is MGO?
The presence of methylglyoxal or MGO in manuka honey was discovered in 2008 by Professor Thomas Henle, head of the Institute of Food Chemistry at the Technical University of Dresden (Germany).

Independent Laboratory Testing
Each batch of Biohoney Manuka Honey has been tested by an independent laboratory to establish its methylglyoxal (MGO) content. Each batch is traceable to a laboratory certificate.
As a guide to the equivalence of UMF and MGO:
UMF 5+ is equal to approximately 83 MGO
UMF 10+ is equal to approximately 268 MGO
UMF 15+ is equal to approximately 514 MGO
